Oppenheimer Returns to IMAX for Oscar Anniversary

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — To honor its monumental Oscar success, Christopher Nolan‘s acclaimed film Oppenheimer is returning to IMAX theaters for a limited one-week engagement starting February 28, 2025. This rerelease commemorates Nolan’s win for Best Director and Best Picture at last year’s Academy Awards.
Oppenheimer, shot on IMAX 70mm film, is celebrated for its stunning visual presentation, particularly when viewed on the expansive 1.43:1 screen format in IMAX theaters. Critics and audiences alike have hailed it as a cinematic masterpiece. One fan noted, “It was a cinematic tour de force, second only to Nolan’s Interstellar in terms of visual impact.”
However, the IMAX 70mm rerelease is limited to just three locations: CityWalk Hollywood in Los Angeles, AMC Lincoln Square in New York, and Kramer IMAX in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Moviegoers are encouraged to check the film’s website for available screening information.
Oppenheimer’s initial release last summer coincided with another blockbuster, Barbie, resulting in viewers opting to see both films on the same day. This cultural moment sparked discussions across social media, showcasing contrasting fan experiences. “I was confused but amused to see a group of young men in pink tutus at my screening,” one audience member shared.
The rerelease comes after a difficult period for cinemas due to the pandemic, providing fans with a chance to experience the film in its intended grandeur. As the excitement builds, more moviegoers are expected to flock to theaters to witness Oppenheimer on the big screen.
