Orioles Hold Off Yankees for 5-4 Victory in Baltimore

BALTIMORE (AP) — Ryan Mountcastle and Ramón Urías hit home runs during a four-run second inning, leading the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.
The Yankees jumped out to an early lead with Aaron Judge’s two-run homer in the first inning. Judge added two singles and ended April with a .427 batting average. Despite his efforts, the Orioles managed to win two out of three games in the series against the American League East leaders.
Mountcastle’s two-run shot in the second inning marked the end of an 0-for-18 slump. Urías followed with a solo homer, giving Baltimore a significant lead. Adley Rutschman also contributed with an RBI single during the inning.
Paul Goldschmidt responded with a home run for New York in the fifth, narrowing the gap to 4-3. An error by Orioles shortstop Anthony Volpe allowed Baltimore to load the bases in the same inning, restoring their two-run advantage.
Benches cleared in the fourth inning when Baltimore’s Heston Kjerstad stole second base. A collision occurred as second baseman Pablo Reyes attempted to catch the throw, leading to a brief scuffle.
In the seventh, Ramón Laureano made a sliding catch in deep left-center field with a runner on second. Judge followed with an RBI single, but New York could manage only one run during that frame.
Bryan Baker (2-0) earned the win for Baltimore, which used six different pitchers in the contest. Félix Bautista closed the game with a perfect ninth inning, recording his fifth save by striking out Trent Grisham.
Carlos Carrasco (2-2) took the loss for New York, allowing four runs and eight hits over 3 1/3 innings.
The Orioles, despite being outscored 46-14 in their last four home games, showed resilience to win two. Both teams will have a day off Thursday, with the Yankees set to face Tampa Bay and the Orioles hosting Kansas City on Friday night.
