Orlando City’s Alex Freeman Joins USMNT for 2025 Gold Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 5, 2025) – Alex Freeman, a defender for Orlando City SC, has been selected for the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, U.S. Soccer announced today.
Freeman’s inclusion is a significant achievement at just 20 years old. “We’re proud to see Alex earning important opportunities with the national team, reflecting the hard work he’s put in at our club,” said Ricardo Moreira, Orlando City SC General Manager and Sporting Director. “His growth has been tremendous, and this call-up is a testament to his potential.”
Freeman, who signed as a Homegrown Player in 2022, has had a breakout year. He leads all defenders in Major League Soccer with four goals and has been vital in Orlando City’s record-tying unbeaten run of 12 games earlier this season. Since his MLS debut in 2023, the Fort Lauderdale native has played in 20 matches, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
The USMNT will kick off their Gold Cup campaign on June 15 against Trinidad and Tobago at PayPal Park in San Jose, California. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. ET. Following that, they will play Saudi Arabia on June 19 at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, at 9:15 p.m. ET, and conclude group play against Haiti on June 22 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 7 p.m. ET.
Before the Gold Cup, the U.S. will hold two friendly matches, starting with Türkiye on June 7 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, at 3:30 p.m. ET. They will then face Switzerland on June 10 at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, at 8 p.m. ET.
The roster includes a mix of veterans and newcomers, with Freeman being one of seven uncapped players. Fans are eager to see how his skills will help the team as they aim for their eighth Gold Cup title.
