Packers Eye Notre Dame’s Jack Kiser for 2025 NFL Draft Depth
GREEN BAY, Wis. — As the Green Bay Packers prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft, Notre Dame linebacker Jack Kiser has emerged as a potential target to bolster their defensive depth. With veteran linebackers Eric Wilson and Isaiah McDuffie set to hit free agency, the Packers are eyeing Kiser, a seasoned player with a proven track record of leadership and tackling prowess.
Kiser, a 6-foot-2, 231-pound linebacker, has been a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s defense, playing in 69 games over six seasons. His 2023 campaign included 85 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks, culminating in a standout performance in the National Championship game against Ohio State. Kiser’s consistency and football IQ have made him a reliable presence on the field.
“Kiser is the lifeblood of Notre Dame’s football program as the most experienced player on the roster,” said Liam Gaudet, senior editor of The Irish Tribune. “His selection for captaincy goes well beyond his playing abilities, and his teammates echo that sentiment when asked about Kiser’s leadership.”
Kiser’s tackling ability is one of his standout traits, with a missed tackle rate of just 4% over the past three seasons. His instincts and discipline in identifying blocking schemes and filling gaps have been critical to Notre Dame’s defensive success. Gaudet added, “Kiser’s vision and awareness translate to impeccable gap integrity. He knows his responsibility and rarely makes mistakes where play execution is concerned.”
While Kiser may not be the most athletic linebacker, his coverage skills and blitzing ability add versatility to his game. He recorded 18 pressures and two sacks in 2023, showcasing his effectiveness as a pass rusher. “Kiser’s coverage ability might be the most overlooked aspect of his game,” Gaudet noted. “He shows a great feel for sinking into his zone and matches up well in man-to-man situations.”
The Packers have already invested in their linebacker corps, selecting Edgerrin Cooper and Ty’Ron Hopper in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, Kiser’s experience and special teams contributions could make him an attractive Day 3 pick. “Drafting Kiser would be seen as an incredibly safe pick,” Gaudet said. “His experience in a defense that’s highly intricate and often likened to that of an NFL style of play would shorten the adjustment period from college to the pros.”
Kiser’s age—he will turn 25 during his rookie season—and limited athleticism may cap his upside, but his instincts, toughness, and special teams experience could make him a valuable addition to the Packers’ roster. With 965 snaps on special teams and 14 tackles during his college career, Kiser has the potential to carve out a long-term role as a core special teamer and depth linebacker.
As the Packers look to address their defensive needs, Kiser’s leadership and reliability could make him a high-priority target late in the 2025 NFL Draft.
