Packers’ Jaire Alexander Future Uncertain After NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Jaire Alexander‘s future with the Green Bay Packers remains unclear as the team contemplates their options following the 2025 NFL Draft. Sources informed ESPN that the decision could lead to a trade, release, or even a return for the two-time All-Pro cornerback.
Both Alexander and the Packers have expressed frustration regarding his performance over the past two seasons, marked by injuries and a suspension. After the draft, which saw the Packers select cornerback Micah Robinson from Tulane in the seventh round, general manager Brian Gutekunst remarked on Alexander’s status.
“We’ll work through that as we go,” Gutekunst said. “But no updates there, and he is on our roster right now and that’s how we’ll proceed.” Gutekunst has had previous discussions about wanting a return if Alexander does not remain on the team.
Despite Alexander missing games, he managed to finish second on the team with seven pass breakups and tied for second with two interceptions in the 2024 season. However, he only played in seven out of 17 regular-season games, having undergone knee surgery for a torn PCL.
The team’s offseason program began last week, conducted virtually due to draft events at Lambeau Field. Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Alexander participated in these virtual meetings, but it remains unclear if he reported for in-person workouts starting this week.
If Alexander joins the offseason workouts, he stands to earn a $700,000 workout bonus. He is currently signed under a four-year, $84 million contract, with two years remaining. Releasing him before June 1 could free up nearly $6.8 million in salary cap space for the Packers.
In addition, the Packers signed a veteran linebacker on Tuesday to bolster their defense. Although they did not draft any linebackers, they are returning starters expected to play a significant role in the upcoming season.
