Paddy McGuinness, renowned for his role in series such as “Take Me Out” and “Top Gear,” has candidly opened up about his battle with arthritis, a condition that he revealed he was diagnosed with in his forties. Now 51, McGuinness sheds light on his journey with the condition as he stars in the new series “Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping” alongside Chris Harris. The duo embarks on a European adventure exploring the secrets to a long and fulfilling life.

The television personality first disclosed his arthritis diagnosis in June 2018 when he took to Instagram to share a picture of his shoulder post-treatment. “Morning! Nursing a poorly shoulder today. I had an ultrasound steroid injection in it yesterday. The reason, arthritis? I’m 44!” McGuinness captioned the photo, which showed a large plaster covering his shoulder.

Upon the revelation, McGuinness received an outpouring of support from fellow celebrities, including singer Olly Murs and former England footballer Jamie Redknapp. “Still looking good though pal. See you Friday big man,” Redknapp commented, offering words of encouragement.

Arthritis is a common condition causing pain and inflammation in the joints, impacting around 10 million individuals across the UK. The charity Arthritis Research UK has noted that arthritis can affect people of all ages, including the young, dispelling the misconception that it is solely an ailment of the elderly. “We’re grateful to Paddy McGuinness for speaking out and showing other young people with arthritis that they are not alone,” the charity stated.

Aside from his health disclosure, McGuinness also reminisced about his friendship with comedian Peter Kay, with whom he shared the screen in “Phoenix Nights” and “Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere.” In Kay’s book, “TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen,” he humorously recalls challenges they faced during filming, including McGuinness’s habitual tardiness.

The duo, who have been friends since their school days at Mount St Joseph High School in Bolton, have maintained a strong bond over the years. McGuinness expressed immense pride in Kay’s achievements, particularly highlighting his record-breaking tour. “Regardless of all the great things he’s achieved on television, there’s literally no one who comes close to what he does live,” McGuinness praised, adding, “I’m very proud you son.”
