Patrick Dempsey’s Racing Comeback Featured in New Documentary

LOS ANGELES, CA – Patrick Dempsey‘s anticipated return to racing will be chronicled in a new documentary airing on FOX Sports 1. Titled “Destined to Drive: Patrick Dempsey’s Return to Racing,” the film will premiere on Sunday, March 16, at 7:00 PM ET, following the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

This one-hour documentary outlines Dempsey’s journey back to motorsports after nearly a decade away from the track. It features exclusive interviews with industry figures, including NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick and Dempsey’s teammate Patrick Long, a three-time American Le Mans Series champion.

“It’s a fascinating journey of a man who loves racing and wants to prove he still has it,” said producer Bobby Akin of Mechanical Rabbit Productions. The documentary provides an intimate look at Dempsey’s preparations and passion for professional motorsports as he competes in the Porsche Endurance Challenge.

Dempsey expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to racing, stating, “I am so thankful for this opportunity – not just to be back behind the wheel, but to do it with the right team and my friend, Patrick Long, as my co-driver.”

Long, who was compelled to join Dempsey by coaching him, found the experience both nostalgic and invigorating. “When Patrick told me he was thinking of coming back after almost a decade away, I had a lot of questions,” Akin said. “He responded, ‘Why don’t we make a film and find out!’”

Akin emphasized that the documentary is not just about Dempsey’s racing comeback, but it also highlights themes such as friendship and the challenges of balancing a demanding career with personal commitments. “It’s a story of overcoming the realities of Father Time and the demands of his acting career while trying to race at an elite level,” said Akin.
