Peacock Cancels ‘Teacup’ After One Season Despite Strong Cast
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Peacock has canceled the horror thriller series “Teacup” after one season, Variety reported Friday. The show, inspired by Robert McCammon’s novel “Stinger,” premiered in October 2024 and featured a star-studded cast including Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman.
The series, which followed a group of people in rural Georgia facing a mysterious threat, was originally picked up straight-to-series in 2022. Despite its strong cast and creative team, including executive producer James Wan of “Atomic Monster,” the show failed to gain significant traction with audiences.
“Teacup” received mixed reviews from critics, earning a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Aramide Tinubu of Variety noted that while the show started strong, it “descends into science-fiction madness that fails to stick to the landing.”
The series’ cancellation comes as Peacock continues to invest in other projects with Atomic Monster, including an untitled espionage drama starring Simu Liu. Peacock does not typically release viewership data, but “Teacup” failed to appear on Nielsen‘s Top 10 streaming charts during its run.
Ian McCulloch served as writer and executive producer on the series, with E.L. Katz directing the first two episodes and Kevin Tancharoen helming the final two. The production was a collaboration between Atomic Monster and UCP.
