STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov is set to start for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday in their matchup against the Nashville Predators as part of the NHL’s Global Series. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time (9 a.m. EST) and follows a hard-fought battle on Friday in which the Predators beat the Penguins 2-1 in overtime.

Murashov, 21, is making his second NHL appearance. He impressed in his debut, stopping 24 of 27 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings last Sunday. Despite the loss, his performance garnered praise from teammates, including winger Tommy Novak, who said, “He’s so good. So athletic and so poised, an impressive young goalie.”

In contrast, Penguins winger Ville Koivunen, 22, has encountered a difficult season. After a strong finish to last season, Koivunen has struggled in 2025, with just two assists in 11 games. He was reassigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins after only two games and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game due to a lower-body injury, listed as day-to-day.

With Koivunen sidelined, Philip Tomasino will remain in the lineup, and Danton Heinen will play after being scratched in the prior game. The Penguins head into this match looking to end a difficult stretch after losing three consecutive games, with hopes of bouncing back against a tough Predators team.
