Peta Murgatroyd Reflects on Family and Future Amid Busy Life

LOS ANGELES, CA – Peta Murgatroyd, a professional dancer from Dancing With the Stars (DWTS), recently opened up about her journey as a mother of three and her hopes for the future. Speaking to Us Weekly, the 38-year-old revealed that while her husband, fellow DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, dreams of being a ‘girl dad,’ she feels her family is complete.

Murgatroyd, who is also promoting her self-tanning line, Peta Jane Beauty, expressed her concerns about having another baby. ‘I think it’s fair to say [I’m done], yeah,’ she explained, reflecting on the physical and mental challenges of raising three young boys, aged Shai, 8, Rio, nearly 2, and Milan, 11 months.

Her journey to motherhood wasn’t easy. After facing infertility issues post-Shai’s birth in 2017, Murgatroyd underwent IVF treatments that led to the birth of Rio in June 2023. Surprising her family, she became pregnant again shortly after, welcoming Milan in July 2024. ‘It was a lot—not just physically, but mentally,’ she shared.

As Murgatroyd adjusts to life as a mother of three, she admits feeling overwhelmed. ‘I want to be able to give my all to my children,’ she said, discussing the guilt of splitting her attention among them. ‘It’s just physically impossible. Shai was an only child for six years, so he got a lot of us.’

Maintaining balance in her hectic family life can be challenging, especially as she returns to work. Murgatroyd has acknowledged how her eldest son, Shai, has noticed shifts in attention since the birth of his younger siblings. ‘He definitely feels everything,’ she explained. ‘It was really tough on him in the beginning, especially when Milan was born.’

Despite the chaos, Murgatroyd embraces her role and remains grateful for her children, reflecting on her past fertility struggles. ‘When I think back to the pain of not being able to keep a baby, I am just so thankful for my family now,’ she said.

While she is ready to return to the DWTS stage, Murgatroyd understands the demands of balancing motherhood and her career. She shared her thoughts on potentially returning, stating, ‘I love the show… I cannot wait to be back.’

Murgatroyd’s experience as a working mom is a common struggle for many, especially in the entertainment industry. She emphasized that finding time for herself and for her marriage is essential. ‘Maks and I have to find time to be together,’ she noted. ‘We’ve really had to sit down and say, ‘I miss you.’ It’s important to communicate.’
