Pete Carroll Emerges as Top Candidate for Chicago Bears Head Coach
SEATTLE, Wash. — Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is reportedly a leading candidate for the Chicago Bears‘ head coaching position, according to NFL insiders. Carroll, 73, has been out of the NFL since his departure from the Seahawks last year but remains a highly sought-after figure due to his proven track record and leadership skills.
Carroll, who led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2013, has been linked to multiple coaching vacancies this offseason. While he previously showed interest in the Los Angeles Chargers‘ opening, the Bears have emerged as a potential landing spot. NFL analyst Tim Weaver believes Carroll is the ideal candidate for Chicago, citing his ability to turn teams into contenders quickly.
“If the Bears are looking for a proven leader, there isn’t a better candidate than Carroll,” Weaver said. “Yes, Carroll is 73, but he is known for his youthful energy. He had a great run in Seattle, never winning fewer than seven games in a season, making the playoffs 10 times in 14 years, and winning the Super Bowl in 2013.”
The Bears, who last won a Super Bowl in 1985, have struggled with consistency, particularly at the quarterback position. Despite a strong defense and running game, the team has often been hampered by poor quarterback play. However, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who showed flashes of brilliance in 2023, could benefit from Carroll’s expertise.
Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, finished his rookie season with a 20/6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. While he struggled at times, his potential remains undeniable. Carroll, who has a history of developing quarterbacks with diverse skill sets, could be the key to unlocking Williams’ talent.
Defensively, the Bears already have a solid foundation, ranking 13th in scoring defense in 2023. With a few upgrades, particularly in the pass rush, Chicago could become an elite defensive unit under Carroll’s guidance.
If the Bears fail to secure Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Carroll may be their best option. His experience, leadership, and ability to develop young talent make him a strong fit for a franchise desperate to end decades of mediocrity.
