PGA Champion John Daly has unfortunately withdrawn from the 106th PGA Championship after sustaining a thumb injury, impacting his participation at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
Daly, who famously claimed victory at the 1991 PGA Championship held at Crooked Stick, announced his withdrawal ahead of the second round, following a challenging opening round.
The 58-year-old golfer opened with an 11-over 82 at Valhalla Golf Club, leaving him ranked 155th in the 156-player field after the first round. This setback marked Daly’s third withdrawal from the PGA Championship in his career.
Known for his colorful career and triumphs on the golf course, John Daly primarily competes on the PGA TOUR Champions circuit, where he has collected five career PGA Tour wins.
During the first round at Valhalla Golf Club, Daly was the sole player granted permission to use a golf cart under the Americans with Disabilities Act, highlighting his ongoing battle with arthritis.
In the memorable 1991 victory, Daly triumphed at Crooked Stick after entering the tournament as an alternate, showcasing his prowess by carding a remarkable 12-under 276 to secure a three-shot win over Bruce Lietzke.
