Philadelphia Flyers Goaltender Carter Hart Takes Indefinite Leave For Personal Reasons

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart has requested and been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the team for personal reasons, as announced by general manager Daniel Briere. The Flyers will not provide any further comment regarding the matter. Hart’s agent, Judd Moldaver, and lawyer, Scott K. Fenton, could not be reached for immediate comment or additional clarification. Hart, a 25-year-old native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, is currently in his sixth NHL season and is set to become a restricted free agent next summer.

Affected by a recent challenging performance where he allowed five goals on 15 shots before being pulled, Hart’s leave of absence comes at a critical juncture for the surprising Flyers, who currently hold a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. In the meantime, the team has recalled goaltender Cal Petersen from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and placed forward Owen Tippett on injured reserve.

Hart joins a growing list of NHL players taking leaves from their teams for various reasons. The Calgary Flames recently announced that forward Dillon Dube would be stepping away indefinitely to address his mental health, with the full support and care of professionals. The timing of these leaves coincides with a potential ruling on a sexual assault scandal that may be forthcoming.

The Flyers will host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night in one of their final games before the all-star break. Despite the absence of Hart, they will aim to continue their impressive season and maintain their playoff position.
