2024 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend: Road Closures, Course Details, and Event Schedule
The 2024 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend is underway, marking the 31st running of the AACR Philadelphia Marathon. This prestigious event, which takes place from November 22 to 24, 2024, has sold out all its races, including the AACR Philadelphia Marathon, the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon, and the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K.
The weekend kicked off with a Health & Fitness Expo and the Nemours Children’s Fun Zone at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday, November 22. The expo continued through Saturday, November 23, alongside the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon and the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K, which started at 6:55 a.m. and 10:55 a.m., respectively.
On Sunday, November 24, the main event, the AACR Philadelphia Marathon, began at 6:55 a.m. with the push rim wheelchairs, followed by the athletes at 7:00 a.m. The starting point is at North 22nd Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with the finish line at Eakins Oval. The Nemours Children’s Run also took place on Sunday, starting at 10:00 a.m. at Von Colln Memorial Field.
The event has significant implications for traffic in Philadelphia, with numerous road closures in effect from Friday through Sunday. Key areas affected include the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Kelly Drive, and various streets in Center City. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and allow for extra driving time due to the closures and enhanced security measures.
Cultural institutions along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Franklin Institute, will maintain normal weekend hours but may experience disruptions due to the race. Public transportation is strongly recommended to avoid congestion.
The official Philadelphia Marathon Weekend app is available for both participants and spectators, providing real-time updates, course maps, and other essential information.
