Pirates May Trade All-Star Mitch Keller Ahead of MLB Deadline

Pittsburgh, PA – As the MLB Trade Deadline approaches at the end of July, the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking more likely to be sellers this season. After starting the year with a dismal 12-26 record, a postseason push seems nearly impossible.
One name emerging as a potential trade candidate is pitcher Mitch Keller. Keller, who has been one of the few All-Stars for the Pirates in recent years, finds himself in a team-friendly position as a middle-of-the-rotation starter, making him an attractive option for teams looking to strengthen their pitching.
This interest comes amid discussions that the Toronto Blue Jays could be a good fit. With two of their starters set to hit free agency after this season, the Blue Jays may see Keller as a valuable addition to their roster.
According to an article from Bleacher Report, Keller’s contract adds considerable value, especially compared to other pitchers like Sandy Alcantara, who commands a higher salary. The Pirates may look to save up to $60 million and bolster their farm system during another challenging season.
While losing Keller would be a setback, he is not seen as an integral part of the Pirates’ future, making him expendable. The team has strong pitching talent in Triple-A, including promising prospects like Bubba Chandler, Paul Skenes, and Jared Jones.
If these young arms can perform at the MLB level, the Pirates may feel more inclined to trade Keller at the deadline. As the team evaluates its options, Keller has become the top candidate to be shopped for needed offensive help.
