Pirates Snap Losing Streak with 9-3 Win Over Angels

Anaheim, California – The Pittsburgh Pirates ended their three-game losing streak, defeating the Los Angeles Angels 9-3 at Angels Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Pirates achieved a season-high 18 hits; however, they may have lost their starting pitcher, Bailey Falter, due to low back tightness. Falter, a Chino Hills native, was taken out after four innings but not before allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five.
This victory marked the Pirates’ first win on their current West Coast swing and improved their record to 9-15. Six Pirates players had multiple-hit games, with Bryan Reynolds, Tommy Pham, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each collecting three hits.
“It was huge, especially the first day on the West Coast,” Kiner-Falefa said in a postgame interview. “To score early and keep rolling – it was a good all-around win.”
Reynolds, who had his third three-hit game in four outings, has raised his batting average from .197 to .263. He credited the team’s aggressive offense, specifically mentioning their 7 for 17 performance with runners in scoring position.
The Pirates opened the scoring in the third inning with RBI singles from Joey Bart and Ke'Bryan Hayes. Taylor Ward narrowed the gap for the Angels with a home run in the fourth, but Andrew McCutchen quickly responded with a three-run homer that put the Pirates ahead 5-1.
“That was a big swing by Cutch to give us some breathing room,” said Pirates manager Derek Shelton.
Despite a brief response from the Angels in the following inning, the Pirates maintained control. Kiner-Falefa contributed with an infield single that brought in a run, and Reynolds later added a two-run single in the ninth to secure the final score.
“Overall, I was very pleased with a really complete game for us,” Shelton noted, emphasizing the team effort behind the victory.
The Pirates will look to build on this momentum as they continue their series against the Angels. Falter’s status will be evaluated, adding a layer of concern for the team’s pitching staff moving forward.
