Pokémon TCG Announces New Scarlet & Violet Expansion for 2025

Redmond, WA – The Pokémon Company announced a new split expansion for the Trading Card Game (TCG) titled “Scarlet & Violet – Black Bolt” and “Scarlet & Violet – White Flare.” Both expansions will officially release on July 18, 2025, and will celebrate Pokémon from the Unova region.
This expansion features a total of 156 Pokémon originally discovered in Unova, including the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom and Reshiram. Players can expect both illustration rare and special illustration rare cards for each featured Pokémon.
“With this expansion, we are excited to bring back beloved elements from the Black and White series while introducing new card styles,” said a spokesperson from The Pokémon Company. “The Unova region has a special place in many fans’ hearts, and we hope to capture that nostalgia while offering something fresh and exciting for players.”
The Scarlet & Violet – Black Bolt set will focus on Zekrom, while White Flare will showcase Reshiram. Each expansion will include three new types of parallel foil patterns, with designs inspired by Poké Balls. Additionally, Basic Energy cards from the original series will be reprised in nostalgic foil styles.
Although preorders have not yet opened, they are expected to go live in mid-May 2025. Fans of the TCG are encouraged to stay tuned to game news platforms and The Pokémon Company’s updates for the latest information.
Players will also have the chance to access the new cards digitally through the Pokémon TCG Live app on various platforms starting July 17, 2025. This will enable them to collect and battle using the new cards while earning in-game bonuses.
