Potential Tropical Cyclone 5-E Expected to Become Hurricane Erick

Miami, FL – FOX Weather Meteorologist Kiyana Lewis provided an update on Potential Tropical Cyclone 5-E, which has now been designated as Tropical Depression 5-E. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) indicated on Monday that this system is expected to develop into Hurricane Erick.
The storm system, previously known as Invest 94E, is located off the coast of Central America. The NHC reports a high likelihood that it will transform into Hurricane Erick by Wednesday.
Forecasters warn that the storm will bring significant rainfall to Central America and southeastern Mexico this week. Forecasts predict that areas along the coasts of El Salvador, Guatemala, and southeastern Mexico might see between 3 to 5 inches of rain, with some localized areas receiving as much as 8 inches.
If PTC Five-E becomes Erick, it would be the fifth named storm of the Eastern Pacific season. The expected path of Erick suggests that it will approach Mexico’s southern coast and could make landfall by the end of the week, marking the first major storm to do so this season.
Additionally, some predictions indicate that the moisture from Hurricane Erick could potentially drift northward, affecting parts of extreme South Texas later this week, resulting in heavy rainfall in that region.
