Practice Swim for Beach to Beach Power Swim Scheduled in Virgin Islands

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands — Friends of Virgin Islands National Park will hold a Practice Swim for Joe Kessler’s Beach To Beach Power Swim on Sunday, May 4, 2025. The Practice Swim will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Maho Bay beach, with participants swimming to Cinnamon Bay beach.
Registration for the practice swim will take place from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Maho Bay beach near the dinghy channel. Due to limited parking at Maho, participants are encouraged to carpool or use safari buses.
Importantly, swimmers taking part in the Practice Swim are not required to be registered for the 22nd Joe Kessler’s Beach To Beach Power Swim, which happens on Sunday, May 25. The power swim, held every Memorial Day weekend, draws hundreds of swimmers to the pristine waters of Virgin Islands National Park on St. John. The event aims to raise funds for local children’s swim programs, marine conservation efforts, and educational outreach.
Participants will have the option to select their distance, starting from Maho Bay beach and swimming to either Cinnamon Bay, Trunk Bay, or the full 3.5 miles to Hawksnest Bay. Registration for the Power Swim has reached its capacity, and any new registrants will be placed on a waiting list. Registration will close on Wednesday, May 21.
Those interested in registering can find the information on the Friends of Virgin Islands National Park’s website at www.friendsvinp.org. The Friends of Virgin Islands National Park is a non-profit organization that supports the National Park Service in protecting the Park’s unique resources and cultural treasures through volunteerism, education, and advocacy.
