Primary School Pupil Arrested for Shooting Principal in Ekurhuleni
A shocking incident unfolded at Primrose Hill Primary School in Ekurhuleni as a 13-year-old primary school pupil was arrested for allegedly shooting the school’s principal. The principal, a 51-year-old educator, was rushed to a medical facility for treatment, following the disturbing incident.
Details surrounding the shooting are still unclear, prompting an ongoing investigation by the authorities to determine the source of the firearm involved in the incident. Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, a spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the pupil, who is set to face charges of attempted murder. The pupil will soon appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane stated that the firearm used in the shooting is believed to have belonged to a parent of the 6th-grade pupil. Chiloane also noted that the incident occurred when the principal instructed learners to study, and the pupil allegedly responded in an unexpected manner, leading to the unfortunate shooting.
Upon receiving the report of the shooting around 8.30 AM, Mamba Security sprang into action to assist the police in apprehending the suspect. The team successfully tracked down the pupil, who was attempting to flee with the weapon still in his possession. After a brief pursuit, the pupil was detained, and SAPS officially took him into custody.
In response to the traumatic event, the education department announced plans to deploy psychosocial support staff to the school on Monday for counseling and trauma support. This move aims to assist students and staff in coping with the aftermath of the shooting, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all.
