Mullanpur, India – Punjab Kings secured a top-two finish in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after defeating Mumbai Indians on May 27. This win ensures Punjab will compete in Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) today at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, starting at 7:30 PM IST.

Punjab’s win over Mumbai saw them finish the league with 19 points, while Mumbai settled for fourth place, forcing them into the Eliminator match later this week. For RCB, victory over Lucknow Super Giants in their last match could shift them to a top-two position, which would allow a chance at the direct entry to the IPL final.

“This match is crucial for both teams as it sets up the path to the final,” said Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer. “We are ready and looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

RB now faces a tense battle, as a win would secure them a chance at the final but a loss could result in playing the Eliminator match against Mumbai. The playoff structure allows the Qualifier 1 winner direct access to the final while the runner-up gets another shot through Qualifier 2.

Historically, the teams have faced each other 35 times in the IPL, with RCB winning 18 matches and Punjab claiming victory in 17. RCB has won four of their last five encounters with Punjab, giving them a slight confidence boost.

Match analytics suggest RCB’s experienced players, including Virat Kohli and Josh Hazlewood, could prove pivotal. Kohli has had a stellar season with 602 runs at a strike rate of 147.91, while Hazlewood has been impressive with the ball, boasting a strong economy rate.

“We are well aware of their strengths and strategies,” said RCB captain Virat Kohli. “Both teams have the capability to win. It will be exciting cricket tonight.”

The stage is set for an enthralling matchup as both teams aim for the IPL title. Fans can expect a thrilling contest in Mullanpur.
