Boston College Hockey Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston College men’s hockey team fell to Quinnipiac 4-3 in their season opener Friday night at Conte Forum. This matchup featured two highly ranked teams but left the Eagles with an early record of 0-1.

The turning point for the Eagles came during a difficult second period where they allowed Quinnipiac to score three goals. Despite a comeback attempt in the final period, BC could not close the gap enough to secure a win.

Boston College’s struggles began early when their new starting goalie, Jan Korec, was forced to make a save just seconds into the game. The Eagles settled down after some time but found themselves down 1-0 when Quinnipiac capitalized on a turnover caused by an inaccurate pass from BC.

The Eagles managed to tie the game with a power-play goal by sophomore Teddy Stiga late in the first period, assisted by Lukas Gustafsson and Andre Gasseau. However, Quinnipiac regained the lead early in the second period, adding two more goals before BC countered with a goal from Ryan Conmy.

As the Eagles entered the third period down 4-2, they fought hard, and Drew Fortescue scored to bring the score to 4-3. However, BC was unable to find another goal in the closing minutes, sealing their loss.

BC’s coach Greg Brown commented on the team’s performance, noting that they fell short due to a poor second period. “They had glimpses but were trying to do too much,” said Brown. “We’ll need to adjust and improve for our next game against Minnesota.”

With a challenging schedule ahead, the Eagles hope to recover from this opening loss as they prepare for two games against Minnesota next weekend.
