Rachel McAdams Doubts Return as Regina in Mean Girls Reunion
London, UK – Actress Rachel McAdams, who became a household name in the early 2000s with films like The Notebook and Mean Girls, has turned down opportunities to reprise her iconic role as Regina George. Despite the film’s lasting popularity, McAdams prefers to focus on new projects rather than return to past characters for purely commercial reasons.
Mean Girls, known for its sharp dialogue and memorable moments, features McAdams as the demanding queen bee, Regina. Fans often recall her lines, such as the infamous “Is butter a carb?” and her ruthless social maneuvers. While McAdams is proud of her work in the film, she has no plans to return to that character unless the circumstances are favorable.
Recently, she was notably absent from a Walmart advertisement featuring her former co-stars Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried, who reprised their roles. McAdams clarified that her absence was not due to any conflicts; she simply felt that doing a commercial as her character would undermine the role’s integrity. In an interview with Variety, she explained, “I don’t know; I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest.”
While a sequel or reunion movie still excites her, McAdams has reservations about returning for commercial projects. “A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag,” she said. Nevertheless, McAdams remains open to the idea of a reunion, expressing, “I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my Plastics.”
Fans may hold out hope for McAdams to revisit Regina George, although the future of the character remains uncertain. The potential for an adult Regina and her story intrigues many, but only time will tell.
