Pakistani Women's Cricket Team Vs South African Women's Cricket Team

Colombo, Sri Lanka – The highly anticipated ICC Women’s World Cup match between Pakistan and South Africa was delayed on October 21, 2025, due to wet conditions on the outfield.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first, hoping to take advantage of what captain Fatima Sana described as a pitch favorable for bowlers. “It looks like a good pitch for the bowlers and the weather is good so we’ll bowl first,” she stated before the match.

As the match was set to begin, light drizzles quickly turned into heavy rain, leading the ground staff to cover the pitch. By mid-afternoon, the rainfall had eased somewhat, and ground staff attempted to uncover the field for an inspection. However, ominous clouds loomed overhead, creating uncertainty about when play could resume.

Fidel, a reporter on the scene, provided updates, noting that while some covers were removed, the rain could persist, impacting the match’s schedule. “It’s looking clear right now, but do expect some interruptions,” he commented.

While South Africa has already secured a spot in the semi-finals with strong performances, Pakistan is in a desperate situation. They must win this match and their next one against Sri Lanka by significant margins to enhance their chances of advancing, particularly after two matches ended in rain-affected washes that granted them precious points.

Masabata Klaas, a key bowler for South Africa, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus. “Every game is important to us,” she said, recognizing Pakistan’s capabilities. As conditions in Colombo continue to fluctuate, both teams are hoping for the rain to relent to ensure a full match.

The delay highlights the challenging weather conditions that have been prevalent in Sri Lanka, deeply affecting the tournament schedule.
