Rams WR Drake Stoops Suspended for Violating NFL Drug Policy

Los Angeles, CA — The NFL has suspended Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Drake Stoops for two games due to a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy, the league announced Tuesday.
Stoops, who signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2024, will miss the first two games of the 2025 regular season without pay. However, he is permitted to participate in training camp and preseason games prior to the suspension.
At 25 years old, Stoops has yet to play in a regular-season game. He spent the 2024 season on the team’s practice squad. The son of former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops, he enjoyed a successful collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma, where he recorded 164 receptions for 1,876 yards and 17 touchdowns over six seasons.
In his final season at Oklahoma in 2024, Stoops achieved personal bests, catching 962 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns. After going undrafted, he was signed by the Rams but did not make a game appearance during his rookie year. He was later signed to a reserve/futures contract, which allowed him to remain with the team into the offseason.
The Rams are currently preparing for the upcoming 2025 season. Coach Sean McVay‘s team is navigating roster changes, with free agency negotiations beginning soon. As part of their offseason adjustments, they recently signed wide receiver Cooper Kupp to a two-year contract while working to bolster their roster.
Stoops’ suspension may pose challenges for his bid to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. Nevertheless, participating in offseason workouts and training camp could provide him the necessary exposure to compete for a spot once his suspension ends.
