Nate Landman Linebacker Los Angeles Rams

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams announced Saturday that linebacker Nate Landman has signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract extension. The deal, which includes $15.67 million guaranteed, comes after Landman made a significant impact in his first season with the team.

Landman, who joined the Rams in March on a one-year, $1.1 million deal, has quickly asserted himself as a leader. In 10 games this season, he has recorded 91 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries while participating in 93% of the Rams’ defensive snaps.

“He has great emotional intelligence,” Rams coach Sean McVay said. “He’s a great competitor. He has earned the respect of his teammates through the way he plays.”

Prior to signing with the Rams, Landman spent three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, who signed him as an undrafted free agent after his college career at Colorado. Despite limited opportunities in Atlanta, he was a standout player, forcing six fumbles in his last two seasons with the team.

Landman has made several game-changing plays this season, including a crucial forced fumble in his debut and a remarkable 17-tackle performance against Baltimore, the highest for a Rams player since 1994. The Rams’ defense is currently ranked second in the NFL for points allowed and 13th for yards allowed, with Landman playing a critical role.

“It’s special for a player to earn captain status in their first year,” McVay added. “It speaks volumes about his work ethic and how he connects with his teammates.”

The Rams (8-2) are riding a five-game winning streak as they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4) on Sunday night, with Landman ready to continue his leadership on the field.
