Busta Rhymes Arrest Dumbo Brooklyn 2024

NEW YORK – Rapper Busta Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., turned himself in to authorities Tuesday after allegedly assaulting his assistant in a luxury condominium in Brooklyn‘s Dumbo neighborhood, law enforcement sources confirmed.

The incident occurred Jan. 10 at the J Condominium complex, where Rhymes, 52, allegedly punched his 50-year-old assistant, Dashiel Gables, multiple times in the face, leaving him with swelling in his left eye. Gables was treated at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull and released in stable condition.

Rhymes was charged with third-degree assault and issued a desk appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 2. Gables declined to comment on the incident when reached by The Post, citing legal advice. “Maybe later. Maybe in the future. I can’t mess up my case, bro,” Gables said. “It’s just not going to be worth it. An article in the paper as opposed to a six or seven-million-dollar settlement? I’m not risking it, sorry.”

This is not the first time the Brooklyn-born rapper has faced legal trouble. In 2015, Rhymes was arrested for allegedly throwing a protein drink at a gym employee in Manhattan. He also has a history of traffic violations and weapons charges. In 2007, he was pulled over for erratic driving in Manhattan, and last year, he threw a beverage at a female fan who smacked his rear-end, though the woman later apologized on social media.

Rhymes, known for hits like “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check” and “Break Ya Neck,” has not publicly commented on the recent charges. Representatives for the rapper did not respond to requests for comment.
