Ravens to Face Chiefs in Season Opener at Arrowhead Stadium
The Baltimore Ravens are set to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2024 NFL season opener on Thursday night, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
The game will be nationally televised on NBC, featuring commentary by Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Melissa Stark. Locally, the Ravens’ broadcast will be available on WBAL Channel 11 as well as on radio stations WBAL (1090 AM/101.5 AM) and 98 Rock (97.9 FM).
Historically, the Chiefs lead the all-time regular season series against the Ravens, 7-4, while the teams are tied at 1-1 in postseason encounters. Their last meeting occurred during the AFC Championship game on January 28, 2024, where the Chiefs secured a 17-10 victory, propelling them towards a Super Bowl title.
Both teams are recognized as strong contenders for the Super Bowl. The Ravens have achieved seven wins in their last eight season openers and boast a 12-4 record under Head Coach John Harbaugh during Week 1. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a 9-2 record in season openers under Head Coach Andy Reid, although they faced a setback last season against the Detroit Lions.
The Ravens’ starting lineup will include several key players who did not participate in preseason games, such as quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry. This matchup presents an opportunity for the Ravens to assess their performance against the reigning champions.
Derrick Henry, known for his prowess in rushing against the Chiefs, aims to make an impact after averaging over 100 yards per game in his career against them. This game marks the debut of Jackson and Henry together in the Ravens’ backfield.
The Baltimore Ravens will also showcase a revamped offensive line, featuring three new starters. This unit will face a challenging test against the Chiefs’ formidable front seven, including defensive standout Chris Jones.
Several crucial matchups are anticipated during the game, including tight end Travis Kelce against safety Kyle Hamilton, and the battle between quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. Both quarterbacks are former MVPs and excellent competitors in the league.
This Thursday night matchup promises to be a thrilling start to the NFL season as both teams look to establish themselves as front-runners for the championship.
