Red Sox Battle White Sox Amid Offensive Struggles in Series Opener

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Boston Red Sox face the Chicago White Sox tonight at 7:40 p.m. ET in the first game of a three-game series, as both teams look to find their offensive rhythm after a series of struggles.
Entering this weekend’s matchup, the White Sox are on an eight-game losing streak, including a disappointing 0-6 record on their recent road trip through Detroit and Cleveland. The team has scored just three runs over their last three games.
On the other hand, the Red Sox managed to avoid a four-game sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays despite scoring only four runs in their first three games of that series. Boston will send left-hander Sean Newcomb (0-1, 5.19 ERA) to the mound for this evening’s game.
The White Sox will counter with right-hander Davis Martin (0-1, 5.73 ERA), who had a tough outing in his last appearance, allowing seven runs and nine hits in just five innings.
The first pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET, and fans can catch the game on NESN or WEEI-FM 93.7.
The Red Sox lineup will feature Jarren Duran in left field, Rafael Devers as designated hitter, Alex Bregman at third base, and Triston Casas at first base, among others. For the White Sox, their lineup includes Yoán Moncada at third base and Luis Robert Jr. in center field.
Noteworthy statistics entering the game include that the Red Sox have recorded the most strikeouts in Major League Baseball this season, with a total of 136.
Sean Newcomb’s last appearance against the St. Louis Cardinals showed promise, as he limited runs to one while scattering six hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 4 ⅔ innings. However, his first outing of the season ended in a loss after giving up four runs in a game against the Baltimore Orioles.
Davis Martin has faced the Red Sox once before, contributing to a victory at Fenway Park last September with six innings of one-run, three-hit pitching.
The White Sox’s recent offensive woes saw them collect only two extra-base hits during their series against the Guardians. The team is hoping for a turnaround against the Red Sox tonight.
As both teams seek to break out of their respective slumps, tonight’s game promises to be crucial for building momentum as the season progresses.
