Red Wings Face Golden Knights in Key Road Showdown
LAS VEGAS — The Detroit Red Wings will conclude their five-game road trip out West tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena. The puck will drop at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT), with the game broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit).
Detroit comes into this game with a record of 9-4-0, sitting at 18 points, while Vegas stands at 6-2-3 with 15 points. After this matchup, the Red Wings will host four games from November 7-15, including the Hockeytown Centennial FanFest and a special event titled ‘100 Years of Hockeytown.’ Tickets for both events are still available.
“It’s going to be a really special weekend,” said Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan. “I think about the players that I was lucky to be around. It gives you shivers thinking of how those players will be represented.”
Detroit has been strong on this road trip, going 3-1-0, and recently clinched a 3-2 victory in a shootout against the San Jose Sharks. The Red Wings have excelled this season when scoring first, going 8-0-0 in those situations. “You can’t be too disappointed in getting the two points, but we need to clean things up,” J.T. Compher noted.
Captain Dylan Larkin pointed out the team’s ability to find resilience during their current stretch. “We’ve won in different ways,” he said. “It’s going to be a huge test in Las Vegas, and I hope we’re ready to go.”
The Golden Knights, facing a series of injuries, are tied with the Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers for second in the Pacific Division. They last played on October 31, suffering a 4-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
Vegas boasts Jack Eichel, who led the NHL with 19 points in October, and has a strong supporting cast including Mitch Marner and Mark Stone. “I’d view Vegas as one of the top teams in the League. They’ve proven it for years,” McLellan added.
Detroit’s recent performances show a need for improvement on defense after allowing 27 goals in their last seven games. This could be crucial against a Vegas team that averages 3.55 goals per game, especially on home ice where they score 4.60 goals per game.
The Red Wings have historically faced a challenge against Vegas with a record of 7-6-0 in their prior matchups. Both teams aim to build momentum as the season progresses.
