The announcement came shortly after the one-year anniversary of the death of his son, Brandon Smiley, who passed away in January 2023 at the age of 32.

Smiley, 56, shared the news during a podcast interview, explaining that his ex-girlfriend learned through a court proceeding that the man she believed to be the twins’ father was not biologically related to them. After a paternity test confirmed Smiley’s relationship to the girls, he began building a closer bond with them.
