Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa recently expressed his admiration for the young opening batsmen Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. He believes that the duo has a striking resemblance to the legendary opening pair of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

Uthappa highlighted that Ganguly and Tendulkar are known as the most successful opening partnership in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Together, they accumulated a remarkable 6609 runs in 136 innings, boasting an impressive average of 49.32. Their partnership included 21 centuries and 23 half-century stands, solidifying their place in cricket history.

Speaking about Gill and Jaiswal, Uthappa mentioned how their playing styles complement each other. He said, “When I look at them, they remind me of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar going out together, where their games kind of complemented each other.”

So far, Gill and Jaiswal have opened together in nine innings, scoring a notable 516 runs at an average of 64.50, which includes two century partnerships and two half-centuries. This impressive start has generated excitement among cricket fans and experts alike.

Uthappa also expressed his confidence in Jaiswal’s potential, encouraging that he should be given more opportunities in ODIs. Despite having played 22 matches, the young left-handed batsman is still waiting for his debut in this format.
