The Rock vs. Roman Reigns Match Still Possible, WWE Sources Say
A potential blockbuster match between The Rock and Roman Reigns remains a possibility, according to WWE insiders. The long-discussed showdown, initially considered for WrestleMania XL, was shelved in favor of Cody Rhodes‘ storyline to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, recent developments suggest the dream match could still happen in the future.
During the January 6th episode of Raw on Netflix, The Rock made a surprise appearance after Roman Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa in a Tribal Combat match. The Rock placed the Ula Fala around Reigns’ neck and embraced him, signaling a shift away from his ‘Final Boss‘ persona. Earlier in the evening, The Rock delivered a babyface promo, further fueling speculation about his wrestling future.
Reigns addressed the ongoing rumors about a potential match with The Rock, stating, ‘I don’t have to tease anything. You guys do it for us. We’re just gonna let the internet do its thing. That would defeat the whole purpose of this. The internet won’t do its thing if I say yes or no, so we’ll see.’
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the idea of Rock vs. Reigns is ‘not dead.’ He noted that while WrestleMania remains a potential venue, other high-paying events could also host the match. ‘They could still go to that in the future, perhaps at Mania, but there’s also the idea of doing it elsewhere, especially with the crazy money some places are paying fighters,’ Meltzer wrote.
The Rock’s wrestling future ultimately depends on his willingness and ability to prepare for a match at his age. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes is reportedly set to face John Cena at WrestleMania 41, while The Rock’s involvement remains uncertain.
