Rockies Lose 8-6 to Tigers in Extra Innings at Coors Field

Denver, Colorado – After a soggy two-day break, the Colorado Rockies hoped returning to Coors Field would shift their fortunes. However, a familiar pattern emerged as they lost 8-6 in 10 innings to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.
Leading 5-3 early in the game, the Rockies watched their advantage slip away when their pitching faltered and the bats went silent. Ryan McMahon started the scoring with a home run in the first inning and Michael Toglia added another bomb in the third inning. However, the Tigers fought back, tying the game at 6-6 when Jordan Beck delivered a crucial RBI in the fourth inning.
Both teams showcased strong pitching afterward, but Colorado’s closer Zach Agnos struggled in the 10th, allowing two runs and a hit. The Rockies were unable to respond in their half, marking their fourth consecutive loss and leaving them with a dismal season record of 6-29.
Despite recording 10 hits, the Rockies struggled in the later innings, managing just three hits while stranding 12 runners in scoring position. They will look to bounce back with a doubleheader against the Tigers on Thursday, starting at 1:10 p.m. M.D.T. with Kyle Freeland on the mound.
Chase Dollander, who had two strong recent starts, had a tough outing, lasting only three innings while giving up six runs and walking three without a strikeout. On the other hand, Jordan Bird, Scott Alexander, and Seth Halvorsen combined for six innings, allowing just three hits and no runs.
Ryan McMahon and Michael Toglia may be in slumps, but they shone on Wednesday. McMahon went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Toglia was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs as well, collectively hitting four doubles. If they can maintain this level of performance, the Rockies may improve their current standing.
