AS Roma Eyes Super Eagles’ Maduka Okoye for Goalkeeping Position
Italian Serie A club AS Roma is setting its sights on securing the services of Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from fellow Serie A side Udinese during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Okoye, who made a permanent switch to Udinese from Watford last summer, has steadily carved out a place as a regular starter in Italy after an initial adjustment period.
The 24-year-old Nigerian shot-stopper’s solid displays for Udinese, including three clean sheets in eight matches across various competitions, have captured the attention of AS Roma, which is looking to replace the outgoing Rui Patricio.
According to a report by romapress.net, AS Roma is in search of a long-term replacement for Patricio, who is set to leave at the end of the current season due to a drop in form. Lecce‘s Wladimiro Falcone is the primary candidate, with Udinese’s Maduka Okoye emerging as another potential transfer target for the goalkeeper position.
Interestingly, Okoye’s recent standout performance in Udinese’s 1-0 victory over Juventus at the Allianz Stadium further enhanced his reputation. The Super Eagles’ former number one made six crucial saves and two key clearances to help secure Udinese’s historic away win against Juventus.
