Roseanne Barr Stars in Pro-Trump Rap Video, Addresses Past Controversies
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Roseanne Barr, the 72-year-old actress and vocal Trump supporter, has made headlines again with her appearance in a new rap video titled “Daddy’s Home” by Canadian rapper Tom MacDonald. The video features Barr in blonde braids and a gold “Roseanne” belly chain, flipping off the camera and shaking her butt in a bold display of political allegiance.
In the video, Barr takes aim at her critics and addresses the controversy surrounding her 2018 tweets about Valerie Jarrett, a former White House advisor. “They tried to cancel me and say that I’m a racist / Got a mean hook, they can’t get me with that jam / Tryna take away my right to go insane then / Well listen up, ’cause this Granny’s going bad,” she raps. Barr had previously attributed the tweets to being under the influence of Ambien, but the fallout led to the cancellation of ABC‘s “Roseanne” reboot within hours.
The cancellation of the show, which had been a ratings success, sparked a wave of backlash from Barr, who blamed various factors, including her co-star and former first lady Michelle Obama. Months later, ABC proceeded with “The Conners,” a reboot of the show without Barr, which ran for six seasons.
Barr, who has long been a supporter of former President Donald Trump, has also been involved in politics. She has rubbed shoulders with figures like Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Tom Price and has been vocal about her political views. Trump himself once praised the ratings of her “Roseanne” reboot premiere.
In addition to her political activities, Barr has been involved in other controversies, including a 2018 incident where she was center stage with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. when he controversially admitted to staging a photo of a dead raccoon to look as if a bicyclist had run over the animal. The state Department of Environmental Conservation said at the time that the statute of limitations for the crime was one year, so he could not be charged.
Barr’s appearance in the rap video is the latest chapter in her tumultuous career, which has seen her rise to fame, fall from grace, and attempt to reclaim her place in the public eye. Whether this latest move will help or hinder her remains to be seen.
