A recent trade report has suggested that the Melbourne Football Club may consider trading star midfielder Christian Petracca if they can secure forward Harry McKay from Carlton in return. However, McKay’s manager has firmly denied any interest from his client in this potential trade.

Insiders have indicated that the relationship between Petracca and the Demons is strained, with reports of noticeable discomfort during the club’s end-of-season function. The dynamic among Petracca and several teammates has been described as ‘beyond repair’.

Despite this situation, Petracca has expressed his commitment to remain with the Demons in 2025, reaffirming his intention in discussions with teammates during the recent club event and again during his exit interview.

Reports from Nine’s Footy Classified highlighted an uncomfortable atmosphere at the Melbourne function, drawing parallels to past situations involving player trades, such as Joe Daniher‘s potential move to Sydney. Sources have revealed that some Melbourne players believe it may be in everyone’s best interest for Petracca to request a trade.

Further complicating matters, McKay’s agent, Dave Trotter, has stated that Harry would not consider a trade to Melbourne. Trotter confirmed, ‘Harry is an absolute no. 100 percent.’ Both clubs have indicated that the trade speculation is not originating from them.

The speculation surrounding Petracca’s future was significantly heightened following his decision to withdraw from a scheduled interview, raising eyebrows within the media. This incident has added to the narrative regarding the player’s current standing at the club.

As per reports, Carlton appears to be the primary candidate should Petracca choose to explore trade options. However, McClure emphasized that the Blues have not even discussed the possibility of a trade involving McKay.

Sources have suggested that Petracca’s desire to leave Melbourne may stem from several factors, including dissatisfaction with the club’s handling of teammate Clayton Oliver‘s trade rumors last year, perceived unprofessionalism in managing Petracca’s own injury situation, and the overall decline of the Demons since their premiership in 2021.

With uncertainties continuing to circulate, veteran journalist Caroline Wilson raised questions about accountability at Melbourne, considering the ongoing circumstances involving multiple players including Petracca and Oliver.
