Ryan Beagle Dominates Day One of Class A State Tennis Tournament

BILLINGS, Montana — Defending boys singles champion Ryan Beagle from Libby had an impressive start at the Class A state tennis tournament on Thursday. Beagle won his first three sets without losing a game, securing his spot in the semifinals set for Friday.
During his quarterfinal match, Beagle faced Carden Nelson from Hamilton, who managed to win two games in the second set. Despite this, Nelson fell short in his attempt to defeat the reigning champion.
In the semifinals, Beagle will compete against Florenz Keller from Miles City, who also advanced after winning both of his Thursday matches in straight sets. The other semifinal will feature Jack Oehlerich from Whitefish and Angus Trangmoe from Stevensville, both of whom also progressed with straight-set victories.
In boys doubles action, Glendive’s duo of Carter Amsler and Dylan Joliffe required three sets to win their first-round match, but then won in straight sets during the quarterfinals. Other noteworthy pairings like Corvallis’ Emmett Allsop and Brannon Fehr, Havre’s Max Spangler and Carter Chagnon, and Stevensville’s Jake Gavlak and Silas Siebert also advanced with straight-set victories.
Amsler and Joliffe will meet Allsop and Fehr in the semifinals, while Spangler and Chagnon will take on Gavlak and Siebert.
Hamilton saw success on the girls’ side as Ciara Hanley, last year’s runner-up, and Tallulah Pinjuv both advanced to the semifinals. Hanley won her matches in straight sets, as did Pinjuv, who lost only one game in her first two rounds.
In the semifinals, Hanley will face Ava Wilcox from Corvallis, while Pinjuv takes on Kinzie Brimmer from Miles City, who also lost just one game on Thursday.
In girls doubles, Hardin’s Taiya Guptill and Johanna Limberhand are returning to the semifinals, where they will compete against Janelle Taylor and Abby Hauer from East Helena. Meanwhile, Miles City’s Brylee Hager and Clea Rapson will face Whitefish’s Maggie Mercer and Camry Kelch in the other semifinal.
