Brooklyn, NY — Director Ryan Coogler revealed during the “7 PM in Brooklyn” podcast that he is excited to work with Denzel Washington in a potential role for “Black Panther 3.” Washington first hinted at this collaboration in November 2024, raising anticipation for the third installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, although it has not yet been officially announced.

Coogler expressed his admiration for Washington, saying he has wanted to work with him “since day one.” “There’s no fiction out there,” Coogler clarified regarding Washington’s earlier comments. “Denzel is family at this point… I think he’s the greatest living actor. I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time.” His enthusiasm was clear as he described Washington’s impact on culture.

Although Washington publicly mentioned Coogler’s script for “Black Panther 3,” Coogler admitted he was initially surprised that Washington went public with this news. “I was surprised when he mentioned it, but it’s not like it’s not true,” he said.

Washington previously stated that playing a role in the sequel would be one of his last projects before retiring. The acclaimed actor has plans to take on iconic roles, including those in “Othello” and “King Lear.” He mentioned, “At this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done.”

Meanwhile, Coogler is also excited about other projects, including his upcoming film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” which reunites Washington with director Spike Lee. He expressed his eagerness for this collaboration, saying, “When Lee and Denzel get together, it’s always a masterpiece.” Coogler has shared emotional moments with Lee, especially when showing him his film “Sinners.”

Despite the buzzing excitement surrounding these projects, don’t expect cameos from Washington or Lee in the “Sinners” cinematic universe. Coogler emphasized that he aimed for a complete viewing experience in his work, aiming to provide an engaging narrative.
