Sacramento Heat Record Weather Forecast

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Downtown Sacramento reached a record high of 87 degrees on March 25, surpassing the previous record of 86 degrees set in 1997. The unusually warm weather comes this week as the region braces for a return to winter-like conditions.

Meteorologist Heather Waldman reported that by 3 p.m. the temperature in Sacramento had already hit this new high, a stark contrast to the average temperature of 69 degrees for this time of year. Nearby Stockton also experienced warm temperatures, peaking at 84 degrees, while Modesto was forecasted to tie its historical high of 87 degrees from 1997.

“We are seeing a significant heat trend today with temperatures exceeding those of previous years,” Waldman noted. “However, as high pressure begins to fade, cooler weather is already on the horizon.”

Looking ahead, forecasts indicate that Wednesday will bring a drop in temperatures closer to the seasonal average as an onshore flow and cloud cover increase. Significant changes are expected to commence on Thursday, when rain showers and possibly light snowflakes are anticipated.

The KCRA 3 weather team has declared Friday as an Impact Day, suggesting that morning conditions will be wetter across the region. The snow level is predicted to be low enough to potentially cause light accumulations at higher elevations, with chain controls on Interstate 80 being a possibility depending on conditions.

“Thursday will present showers, but we do not foresee it impacting travel or outdoor arrangements significantly,” Waldman emphasized. “Most of the activity will occur later in the week.”

While Saturday is expected to be dry, another system will bring rain and high-elevation snow on Sunday. Currently, meteorologists anticipate cool and unsettled weather will persist into the next week, urging residents to stay updated on the forecast.

Waldman added, “As we move through the week, we will continue to monitor the conditions closely, especially for anyone planning outings in the Sierra. Friday appears to be particularly wet, so having an umbrella handy might be wise.”
