New Orleans Saints Coaching Candidates 2025

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints are narrowing their head coaching search as they navigate weather-related delays and playoff schedules. The team has completed virtual interviews with several candidates and is preparing for in-person meetings this week.

The Saints began their search after parting ways with their previous head coach in November. Interim coach Darren Rizzi, who led the team to a 3-5 record, remains a candidate. Other contenders include former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy, Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

“The timetable and time frame is dictated … mostly by the league policies and rules that we have to adhere to … and some of these candidates are still involved in playing games, and so that’ll dictate the timing,” Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said recently.

Weather has played a significant role in delaying the process. A snowstorm and extreme cold in New Orleans forced the team to postpone in-person interviews. Additionally, candidates like Brady and Moore are still involved in the playoffs, further complicating the schedule.

Rizzi, 54, has garnered support from players, including running back Alvin Kamara, who tweeted, “Aite my vote for head coach rhyme wit Fizzi.” Rizzi has never been an NFL head coach but has extensive experience as a special teams coordinator and college head coach.

Weaver, 44, completed a virtual interview on Jan. 8 and is scheduled for an in-person meeting. He spent last season with the Dolphins after three years with the Baltimore Ravens. Brady, 35, the youngest candidate, has ties to Louisiana, having worked with the Saints and LSU. Kafka, 37, and Moore, 36, are also in the mix, with Kafka having a connection to former Saints player Zach Strief.

McCarthy, 61, has deep ties to the Saints, having served as their offensive coordinator from 2000 to 2004. He is also familiar with Loomis and Randy Mueller, who is assisting in the search.

The Saints are one of only two teams without a head coach, joining the Dallas Cowboys. The process is expected to conclude soon, with in-person interviews resuming as weather conditions improve.
