Saints Secure Key Players Amid Offseason Changes

New Orleans, Louisiana — The New Orleans Saints have made significant moves this offseason, keeping some of their key free agents while also facing departures. The franchise has retained standout players like Chase Young and Juwan Johnson, while restructuring contracts for veterans including Derek Carr and Cam Jordan.
As part of their offseason strategy, the Saints proactively restructured contracts to alleviate salary cap issues, allowing them to retain several important players. However, not all news has been favorable; cornerback Paulson Adebo was the first high-profile player to leave, signing with the New York Giants shortly after free agency opened.
In another notable move, former Saints cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, as reported by ESPN‘s Jeremy Fowler. “The Seahawks are signing free-agent cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, per source,” Fowler noted. Last season, Jean-Charles recorded 14 tackles, one interception, and two passes defended while appearing in nine games for the Saints.
Jean-Charles, who is 26, had prior stints with both the San Francisco 49ers and the Saints over the last two seasons. In his final season with New Orleans, he played three games and tallied an interception and two passes defended.
Despite his departure, Jean-Charles played a solid backup role during his time with the Saints. Now, he is looking to establish himself with the Seahawks as the 2025 NFL season approaches, while New Orleans continues to navigate their roster adjustments.
Alongside retaining their core, the Saints also aim to reduce turnover this offseason amid ongoing salary cap challenges. Rumors of potential cuts circulated across social media, raising concerns for some players. Notably, Cameron Jordan, an eight-time Pro Bowler and long-time member of the Saints, faced speculation about his future with the team.
Jordan, who has spent his entire 14-year career in New Orleans, publicly expressed his desire to remain with the team during an appearance on the “Off the Edge” podcast. “My agent calls me, he was like, ‘Hey, you know, we’ve got to sort of get something done,’” Jordan explained. “I was like, if I have to go somewhere, I will go… My contract says I have another year on it so unless they cut me I’m not leaving.”
Jordan’s sentiments reflect his commitment to the Saints and his hope of achieving a Super Bowl victory in New Orleans. “At the end of the day, this is where I want to be,” he said. “I’ve always said I want to win a Super Bowl in the Black and Gold.”
As the Saints continue refining their roster ahead of the new season, fans and analysts will be watching closely for further developments and potential signings.
