Santa Fe Players’ Fight Overshadows Victory Against Deportivo Cali

BOGOTÁ, Colombia — On Saturday, Independiente Santa Fe defeated Deportivo Cali 2-0, but the win was marred by an altercation between two Santa Fe players. The heated moment occurred as the players celebrated their second goal, leading to criticism from fans and discussions about potential consequences.
Coach Jorge Bava addressed the incident in a press conference, stating he was unaware of the full details but planned to speak with the involved players. Decisions regarding possible fines or sanctions would be made with a clear head, he emphasized.
On Monday, the players involved, Harold Santiago Mosquera and Yilmar Velásquez, took to social media to ease tensions. Mosquera posted a photo with Velásquez in the gym, insisting that there was no bad blood between them. “Acá hay hermandad, allá ustedes,” he wrote, which translates to “Here there is brotherhood, that’s for you all.”
The fight drew attention not just locally but also made trends in other football circles. After the confrontation, which saw one player slap the other, both players reportedly faced a warning and might face a fine, although the club has not confirmed this.
Importantly, both Mosquera and Velásquez are set to miss the final match of the regular season against Alianza FC at the Armando Maestre Pavajeau Stadium.
As for Santa Fe’s position in the Liga BetPlay 2025-I, the team is currently in sixth place with 33 points, just three points shy of the top four. They aim to secure a better standing in hopes of qualifying for the next stage of the tournament and competing for the championship.
