Santiago Gimenez Pushes for AC Milan Move Amid Feyenoord Resistance
ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is reportedly pushing for a move to AC Milan during the January transfer window, with his entourage working to finalize the deal. However, the Dutch club remains reluctant to part ways with their star forward, setting the stage for a potential standoff.
According to reports, Gimenez has already reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Milan, described as ‘easy’ to achieve. The 23-year-old Mexican international, who holds an Italian passport, has been a top target for Milan since last summer. Despite Feyenoord’s initial refusal to sell, Gimenez’s representatives, including agent Rafaela Pimenta and his father Christian, are expected to formally communicate his desire to join the Rossoneri.
Feyenoord’s directors have previously rejected offers for Gimenez, including a bid from Juventus for defender David Hancko. The club is determined to retain the striker, who has scored 13 goals in 17 games across all competitions this season, at least until the summer. Milan, however, is prepared to negotiate, with the possibility of structuring a deal that includes performance-based incentives, such as Champions League qualification or trophy wins.
Milan’s management, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani, and Geoffrey Moncada, had targeted Gimenez last summer as a potential partner for Alvaro Morata. However, Feyenoord’s €40 million valuation proved prohibitive, leading Milan to pursue other options, including Tammy Abraham and Alexis Saelemaekers. Now, with the January window open, Milan is revisiting the possibility of signing Gimenez, though Feyenoord’s stance remains firm.
Reports suggest that Milan is exploring alternative options, including Sevilla‘s Dodi Lukebakio, a Belgian winger with different attributes. However, Gimenez remains the primary target, and contacts between the player’s camp and Milan are said to be strong. The Rossoneri are also considering raising funds through potential sales of players like Emerson Royal, Pavlovic, Luka Jovic, and Noah Okafor to facilitate a significant offer.
Gimenez, who earns less than €1 million annually at Feyenoord, stands to see a substantial wage increase if the move materializes. His Italian passport also makes him an attractive option for Milan, as he would not occupy a non-EU roster slot. Despite the hurdles, Milan remains optimistic about securing the striker, with negotiations expected to intensify in the coming days.
