Science Coalition Video Challenge

The Science Coalition, a nonprofit organization comprising over 50 leading public and private research universities in the United States, is organizing its sixth annual video challenge. This event encourages students to produce videos that emphasize the significance of scientific research. Northern Illinois University (NIU) is among the participating institutions.

There is an opportunity for students to win cash prizes in this competition. The first-place winners will receive $1,000, second-place winners will earn $750, and third-place winners will be awarded $500. The People’s Choice Award offers a prize of $500 and is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. It should be noted that submissions from these two groups will be judged separately.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in, or affiliated with, member institutions of The Science Coalition, such as NIU. Participants are expected to submit a 60 to 90-second video that articulates the value of scientific research.

The deadline for submission is Friday, October 25. Further details about the competition, as well as submission guidelines, can be found on the website of The Science Coalition.

This initiative allows students from various disciplines to engage creatively with science communication, potentially opening doors to new opportunities. According to The Science Coalition, providing a platform for student voices is crucial in advocating for the broad impacts of research across different sectors.
