Apple TV+ and Skydance Media are set to release a new film by director Scott Derrickson, known for his work on ‘Doctor Strange‘ and ‘Sinister.’ The upcoming film, ‘The Gorge,’ combines multiple genres and is scheduled for release in 2025. Initial images and plot details were shared through IGN, providing a glimpse into Derrickson’s latest cinematic endeavor.

The film stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as elite snipers stationed in watchtowers on opposite sides of a mysterious gorge. These characters, one American and the other Lithuanian, find themselves tasked with safeguarding the world from an undisclosed, malevolent force lurking within the gorge. Despite the vast distance between them, the two develop a bond while facing an unseen enemy. As the story unfolds, the gravity of the threat becomes clear, requiring them to collaborate, leveraging both their physical and mental faculties.

In a statement to IGN, Derrickson remarked on the film’s diverse genre influences, stating, “The Gorge blends multiple genres — romance, science fiction, action, spy thriller, and even horror.” This new project aims to explore the evolving connection between the lead characters amid escalating peril.

The screenplay for ‘The Gorge’ is penned by Zach Dean, known for ‘The Tomorrow War,’ with additional production support from Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, alongside Crooked Highway’s C. Robert Cargill and Sherryl Clark.

Additionally, ‘The Gorge’ is rated PG-13, and its lineage of creators includes executive producer Miles Teller and producer Sigourney Weaver, adding substantial talent to the project.

Principal photography for the film wrapped in the United Kingdom in 2023, and the anticipation is building as its debut approaches. IGN’s exclusive first look at the film also included a poster with a poignant tagline, “They’re not keeping you out. They’re keeping them in.”
