The Seattle Kraken have secured a key player for their future by signing goalie Joey Daccord to a five-year, $25 million contract extension. This move was reported by Chris Johnston, a Hockey Insider for TSN. Daccord’s new contract, which carries an average annual value of $5 million, is set to begin in the 2025-26 NHL season.

Joey Daccord, currently in the second year of a two-year contract with an annual value of $1.2 million, was poised to enter unrestricted free agency next summer. His current contract situation had made his future with the Kraken uncertain until this new agreement was reached.

Last season, Daccord made a significant impact by appearing in a career-high 50 games for the Seattle Kraken, where he recorded a 19-18-11 win-loss record. He also posted a 2.46 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage during that time. Previously, his personal best was eight games in the 2020-21 season while playing for the Ottawa Senators.

Daccord’s journey to the NHL began when he was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Over his career, which includes playing for both Ottawa and Seattle, he has maintained a 2.77 goals-against average across 69 games. He became a member of the Kraken following the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, in which Seattle selected him from Ottawa.

This contract extension makes Daccord a key part of the Kraken’s goaltending duo alongside fellow goalie Philipp Grubauer, who is currently signed through the 2026-27 season with a cap hit of $5.9 million. This strategic move emphasizes the Kraken’s commitment to solidifying their options at the goaltender position for the foreseeable future.
