Senator Mullin Leverages Social Media for Trump Nominee Advocacy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Markwayne Mullin has emerged as a prominent voice on social media in recent weeks, frequently providing updates on nominees confirmed to President Donald Trump’s administration. His engagement showcases a unique blend of personal interest and political strategy.
“It gives me something to do,” Mullin shared with NOTUS on Thursday, just before the Senate confirmed nominee Kash Patel. Mullin had previously posted a promotional video on Instagram highlighting Patel’s nomination. The senator acknowledged, “I’m not kidding… it gives me a purpose, a drive, but I’m more personally connected than I’d say most people are.”
Elected to the Senate in 2022, Mullin is navigating his first round of confirmations at the onset of a new administration. He has consistently voted in favor of every Trump nominee so far and has gone above and beyond typical advocacy practices by directly engaging other senators, hosting nominees in his office, and actively promoting them through his social media channels.
His presence on social media often resembles a schedule announcement, detailing upcoming Senate votes. “If I want to know what the schedule is, I can check out my Twitter feed,” said Senator John Cornyn, referring to Mullin’s frequent postings. “He’s found a niche that he seems to enjoy, and I think it can prove to be useful.”
Mullin highlights his longstanding relationships with key nominees, such as Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which he believes give him an advantage in advocating for them compared to his colleagues. He noted that many of these connections were formed during his campaigning efforts for Trump in 2024.
On Thursday, Mullin remarked, “There are very few nominees I didn’t know well before this process embarked. Conversations during the campaign helped shape my approach to confirmation season here in the Senate.”
Mullin also mentioned the role of Teamsters union leader Sean O’Brien in the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor, indicating a collaborative effort to reconcile with O’Brien after a previous altercation at a Senate hearing. He shared that both he and O’Brien pitched her candidacy to President Trump, who responded positively.
As Mullin continues to advocate for various nominees, he faces challenges, particularly with nominees like Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who have faced mixed reviews from other senators. In Hegseth’s case, Mullin defended him during confirmation hearings, directly pushing back against critics within the Senate, saying some colleagues were inappropriate during the voting process.
Senator Tommy Tuberville commented on Mullin’s engagement, stating, “He’s been very active in cabinet nominees, and that’s good. He’s helped President Trump, as we all have tried to, and he’s done a good job as well as everybody else in our conference.”
As the nomination process continues, Mullin shows no signs of slowing down in his efforts to support Trump’s selections. This approach sets him apart as a vocal and active participant in the ongoing political landscape.
