U.S. Senators Call for Destruction of Iran’s Nuclear Program Amid Rising Tensions
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and John Fetterman, D-Pa., have joined forces in calling for the destruction of Iran‘s nuclear program, citing the regime’s hostile intentions and the failure of diplomatic efforts to curb its nuclear ambitions.
“I don’t think diplomacy works,” Graham declared during an interview on “Face the Nation,” labeling Iran a “religious Nazi regime” that seeks “to destroy the Jewish State.” He added, “I am hoping there will be an effort by Israel to decimate the Iran nuclear program, supported by the United States. And if we don’t do that, it will be a historical mistake.”
Fetterman, a staunch supporter of Israel, echoed Graham’s sentiments in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “One Hundred Percent,” he wrote, to which Graham responded, “Spot on, @SenFettermanPA. You get it.” Earlier this month, Fetterman had tweeted, “Whatever remains of Iran’s nuclear program needs to be destroyed, and I fully support efforts to do so.”
The bipartisan call comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Iran’s recent announcement of a “strategic partnership” with Russia further complicating the geopolitical landscape. Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, a former Trump envoy to Ukraine and Russia, reacted to the development on “The Story,” emphasizing the growing alliance between Tehran and Moscow.
Fetterman, who recently met with President-elect Joe Biden, described the meeting as a “positive experience,” though details of their discussion remain undisclosed. Both senators have been vocal about their support for Israel, with Fetterman’s outspoken advocacy marking a rare bipartisan alignment on foreign policy.
As the 2024 campaign trail heats up, the issue of Iran’s nuclear program is expected to remain a focal point in U.S. political discourse, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle grappling with the best approach to address the escalating threat.
