Series of Earthquakes Shake Oklahoma, No Damage Reported
A series of earthquakes struck Oklahoma over the weekend, with no reports of damage or injuries. On Friday evening, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Arcadia, northeast of Oklahoma City. Just a few minutes later, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded nearby. Two smaller earthquakes of 2.7 and 2.5 magnitude followed. On Saturday morning, the earthquakes continued with a 2.6 magnitude tremor near Acadia and another 4.4 magnitude quake near Edmond. A smaller earthquake of 2.7 magnitude occurred as well.
These earthquakes, ranging from 2.5 to 4.4 magnitude, typically cause disturbances but do not usually result in significant damage. The Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) warned of possible strong aftershocks and urged citizens to secure valuables and practice safety measures in the event of damaging events. These recent earthquakes do not match the record-breaking 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Pawnee in 2016.
In 2017, a lawsuit was filed by some Oklahoma oil companies by tribal court, alleging that the injection of wastewater underground by these companies led to the earthquake.
